During the last few years, we have found funding to construct several buildings and set up numerous handicraft workshops. All the children visiting our centers, daycare centers, or orphanages are in total or partial family rupture. Without our help, the future of some of these children would be seriously compromised. Many of them are at risk of falling into delinquency and violence.
Several centers have been built in the states of Maranhão, Piauí, and Bahia.
These centers are run by Brazilian volunteers who spend all their time finding ways to feed and clothe the children. This leaves them with too little time and too few resources to acquire educational materials.
It is in this sector that we support them as much as possible because manual work, as well as cultural activities and sports, are essential for the development of the children. We have created many workshops in these centers, including sewing, silkscreen printing, painting, modeling, wood sculpting, and many others.
To this day, Nordesta has built three new centers in the states of Bahia and Maranhão, and provides support in three other centers of Alagoas (Cajueiro and Palmeiras dos Indios) and Maranhão.
